Totally Addictive Popcorn Tofu

So back in the day, I used to eat a fairly steady amount of fast food. And yes, I even ate KFC! AAAK! Does anyone remember Popcorn Chicken? Those tiny little bites of chicken, breaded and deep fried? Nothing but terrible for you, but tasted pretty good? Well, I may have stumbled upon the ultimate, vegan substitute for popcorn chicken! Yep, POPCORN TOFU!

And it’s actually kinda good for you. No meat, no deep frying and makes an amazing addition to so many dishes, plus it tastes great on it’s own! Give it a try for yourself and see what you think!

  • 2 x 350g blocks of extra-firm tofu, drained. (I use organic/non-GMO tofu)

  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce or tamari

  • 1 heaping tsp garlic powder

  • 1 heaping tsp onion powder


  1. Preheat your oven to 375F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine your olive oil, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, onion and garlic powder and mix well.

  3. Take your blocks of tofu and break into bite sized pieces and add them to your bowl.

  4. Use a spatula to mix the tofu into the seasoning mixture until all the tofu is coated.

  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicon baking sheet and spread your tofu chunks evenly over the baking sheet.

  6. Bake your popcorn tofu for 30-40 mins. Make sure to stir them around halfway through so they get nice and golden all over.

  7. Enjoy them hot out of the oven or keep then in the fridge for later. They make great additions to tacos, salads, wraps, stir fries or just for snacking on their own!


*These little tasty popcorn tofu nuggets will firm up the more they cool. Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste. Try adding some cajun seasoning for a spicy kick or smoked paprika for a little more bbq flavour. Poultry seasoning would also make a great addition! I do tend to keep mine a little more basic so that I can add them to lots of different dishes.
