Raw Zesty Cheese Kale Chips

Looking to satisfy that snack craving? Skip the bag of chips and reach for a handful of Zesty Cheese Kale Chips instead.  Not only are they packed full of nutrients, they're also gluten-free, nut-free, vegan and delish!

Raw Zesty Cheese Kale Chips


  • 1 bunch of Kale
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 3-4 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 cup Sunflower Seed Butter (or you can use Tahini as well)
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon Sriracha Sauce (or hot sauce of your choice)
  • 2 heaping tablespoons Nutritional Yeast


Wash and dry your kale.  Remove the thick ribs and tear into chip sized pieces. Wash, seed & chop your pepper. In a high-speed blender (I used my Vitamix), blend all your  ingredients (except Kale) until smooth and creamy.  Place your Kale in a large bowl & cover in your Zesty Cheese sauce.  And now it's time to get dirty! With clean hands, massage your kale & sauce ensuring each soon-to-be chip is coated.

Next, place your kale onto your dehydrator trays.  Fill the trays without overlapping the the kale.  I used all 4 trays in my Nesco dehydrator for this recipe.

Now time to dry out those lovely leaves! Set your dehydrator to 115 degrees and walk away.  They will take anywhere from 6-8 hours depending on how wet your kale is and your type of dehydrator.  If you're impatient you can always turn up your dehydrator a bit and enjoy them sooner, but they'll lose the raw-ness factor.

These kale chips totally exceeded my expectations! They are totally cheesy and crunchy with the perfect bit of heat.  My husband declared that they are better than Doritos!

So give them a go...and I dare you to just eat one!

Jerked Juice Pulp Crackers

I love juice! I love making juice & drinking juice and did I say drinking juice?  But the one thing I don't like is all the left over pulp.  What do you do with all that juice pulp? I usually feed it to my worms or toss it in the compost, but even with those greener options it still feels like a waste to me.  So I decided I would make something out of that rainbow pulp and TA DA.....

Jerked Juice Pulp Crackers


  • Your left over pulp from a juicing session (I had about 5 or 6 cups after making juice for me & my man)
  • 1 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Chia
  • 1/2 cup of your fresh juice or water
  • 1 1/2 tsp Jerk Seasoning


In a large bowl, mix your juice pulp and juice/water until well combined. Add your seasonings and Chia and mix it well.


Firmly press your pulp mixture onto a fine screen for your dehydrator. My

Nesco has these great Clean- A-Screens that worked perfectly for my pulp. Make sure your soon to be crackers are a nice even thickness all around.  Mine was about 1/4 inch or so thick.


Dehydrate your mixture for about 8-12 hours at 115 degrees.  The time will vary depending on how wet your pulp is and your dehydrator. My crackers took about 12 hours to reach the perfect crispiness. Once done you can either cut them into crackers or go for a more rustic look by breaking them into dip-able sized pieces!


These Jerked Juice Pulp Crackers had just the right bit of kick and worked wonderfully with my hummus. Not only are they delicious, but a perfect way to add some fiber to your snack and make use of all that gorgeous healthy pulp! Got a fruitier juice? Why not make a sweet cracker with cinnamon, ground vanilla & nutmeg?

5 -Day Cleanse Results & Revelations

Well, it's official....the cleanse is over.  And surprisingly enough I'm not running off to stuff my face full of food.  In fact, I'm kind of sad.  The 5-day juice cleanse from The Pulp & Press Juice Co. took my mind off food almost completely.  Even as I'm busy baking holiday treats today, I'm still not terribly interested in food. I will definitely miss having all my meals planned out for me.  Now I have to stock the fridge and start figuring out what I'm going to eat! Luckily, The Pulp & Press Juice Co. has given me a post-cleanse menu to ease back into eating.
But I'm sure you're dying to know my overall opinion and my results from my juice cleanse.  For anyone just checking out this post, I haven't had anything but cold-pressed, raw, organic juice from The Pulp & Press Juice Co., water and herbal tea for the past 5 days.

So here it goes:
5 -Day Cleanse Results & Revelations
  1. I'm stronger than I thought.  I admit there was part of me that didn't think I'd make it through the 5 days without food. I'm still surprised that I made it through.
  2. Stay positive and keep your eyes on the prize.  Definitely in moments of weakness, while watching my family enjoy the meal I made for them, remaining positive was a life saver to achieving my goal and staying strong no matter how good their food looked and smelled.
  3.  I've lost a few pounds while doing the cleanse.  5.2lbs to be exact, but who's counting?  It wasn't my objective to lose weight, but I am definitely happy about the result.
  4. My skin is softer, smoother and more even.  I am going to chalk this up to keeping super hydrated plus ingesting tons of amazing vitamins, nutrients and enzymes from the juice.
  5. I'm happier.  Yup, you heard me right.  Who knew not eating for 5 days could improve your mood?  My husband even commented yesterday that I looked happier and more refreshed. Thank you juice!
  6. The worst thing I experienced was caffeine withdrawal during the pre-cleanse preparation.  This was a whopping wicked headache that lasted for 2 days.  But all is well now, thankfully.
  7. I can survive without a morning coffee.  Who knew I could get through my day without caffeine?
  8. In my opinion the key to completing this type of cleanse is proper preparation, hydration, support and dedication and you'll enjoy lots of wonderful health benefits in the process.
So overall, I'm very happy with all aspects of the cleanse.  From the juices themselves (which are so freakin' delicious), to the physical and emotional changes and to the support and understanding from The Pulp & Press Juice Co., this entire experience has been amazing.  

I encourage you to do some research and learn how you can incorporate juicing into your life.  Maybe it's just adding one into your daily routine or doing a full out cleanse. Either way it's good for you in so many ways.  I could totally see doing this before your tropical vacation or maybe even your wedding day!  Who wouldn't want to be happier, brighter and even a little lighter before the big day?

Juice Cleanse - Day 5 - the End is Near

It's the final day of my 5-Day Juice cleanse from The Pulp & Press Juice Co.  And I'm not too sure how I feel about that.  It's so bittersweet. It's hard to explain, but part of me can't wait to eat and the other part is hesitant to start again.  I know one thing for sure; I will miss my Pulp & Press Juice waiting for me in the fridge.

It's been a journey and there's been some hard times, but for the most part it's been good.  I'm feeling a little lighter, brighter and healthier.  And I'm now trying to figure out what I will eat tomorrow.  Will I have coffee again?  And what will a glass of wine do to me?  Lots of questions swirling around in my head.

I don't want to come off all high and mighty, but I didn't find this cleanse as difficult as I had expected. I had kind of hoped it would have been harder as it would've given me some great stories for the blog.  Please don't get me wrong, it's not a cake walk, but I certainly didn't experience what some people go through.  I've heard of people experiencing exhaustion, nausea, headaches, body aches, and other unpleasant side effects of  detoxifying their bodies.

So today I'm going to savour every last juice.  I've got a rainbow of flavours for my final day.  I started today with a Red Monster.  Up next is a Beta Blaster, then the Hulk, Root Cellar and finish it off with a little Lemon Sherbet.  Mmmm!

Sorry today's post is short and sweet; I'm saving up for my final wrap up tomorrow.  Stay tuned for my candid summary of my last 5 days without food.  Hopefully it will inspire you to try a cleanse or even just a juice here and there.  I know one thing for sure, I'm already way more conscious & concerned with what I put into my body.

Juice Cleanse: Day 4 - over the hump!

It's the start of Day 4 of my 5-Day juice cleanse from The Pulp & Press Juice Co! And honestly, I can say no complaints this far. Really...I mean it! I'm happy, I have energy, I have lost a few pounds and I'm getting rid of lots of toxins from my body, what more could I ask for?!


A little recap from  Day 3: Yesterday was the first time I noticed I was hungry.  Or should I say, due for my next juice.  Just a little rumble in the tummy and when I checked my watch it was just about juice time.  The 5-day cleanse consists of 5 raw, organic, cold-pressed juices each day.  I try to take them at 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 8pm...give or take a bit.  I've noticed the times I'm most hungry for the juice seem to be the 11am and 2pm mark. This was easily taken care of by some herbal tea or my next juice meal.  Yesterday was also the first time I really noticed a surge of energy from the juice. Within minutes of consuming my liquid meal I could physically feel the energy coming back to all parts of my body.  It's such an unbelievable feeling.  The surge of power flowing through every ounce of your body is so invigorating.  Even more amazing is the fact it's all from the pure nutrients of the fruits and veggies.  No caffeine, no stimulants, just exactly what your body needs.

Oh yeah, one more thing...

*TMI warning*....one of the added 'bonuses' you could say is you don't really have bowel movements.  I know it sounds creepy and gross, but your body essentially absorbs everything from the juice so there's very little waste.  Pretty amazing!

So Day 4 brings on four green juices and one red one.  Lots more detoxifying happening today!  Yay! 

 At this point now I'm more concerned with what my first meal will be on Friday.  After nothing but pure vitamins and nutrients from the juice I'm really focused on what I will be putting into my body once I start eating again. This is going to be a tough call!

But for now... my lunch time juice.  How about a little Green Glow to get my motor running?

Juice Cleanse: Day 3

The menu for today!
So here I am, day 3 of my juice cleanse from The Pulp & Press Juice Co.  Pretty much midway through my foodless journey.  And honestly, so far so good.

Yesterday, day 2, wasn't bad at all.  I felt good, I had energy without caffeine and I wasn't really hungry.  The hardest thing was cooking dinner for the family.  Anytime I cook I always sample and taste bits and pieces from each dish.  Even if it's just chopping veggies I always pop a couple in my mouth.  So needless to say it was incredibly difficult to not eat a single thing.

The best part was during dinner as the kids were inhaling the casserole I had whipped up without tasting; they both decided they wanted my dinner juice - a bottle of Turbo.  I literally had to pry it from their hands.  Whenever I wasn't looking Stella would steal my bottle and chug as much as she could before getting caught.  It was so adorable, but I admit I did start to get possessive about my juice and had to cut them off before it was gone.

It's now Tuesday and the third day without food or caffeine.  And any caffeine withdrawal symptoms seem to be long gone. I'm still surprised that I wake up feeling alert and energized without a single drop of coffee!  I have also noticed that I seem to be mellower.  Not that I'm a high strung person, but you know those little things that your kids or husband do that just drive you nuts?  And you can't help but say something counterproductive about them?  Well those things don't seem to get to me as much.  I think I must be experiencing some of the mood balancing benefits from the juice. Oh, and on top of feeling more content, I've lost 3.5 lbs since starting the cleanse.  Sweet!

Juice Cleanse: Day 2

So it's lunch time on day 2 of my 5-day Juice cleanse from The Pulp & Press Juice Co.  And so far so good. 

A quick recap from Day One - I did feel a bit on the tired side for most of the day.  But I can't really say if it's from the cleanse or from running around all weekend with 2 kids.  Most Sundays I'm tired, so who knows.  I made it through the day without caffeine or food and felt pretty good.
 But then came dinner time.  My husband had roast chicken, potatoes and green beans all set for him and the girls. The smell was divine. My mouth watered and it was all I could do not to steal a piece of chicken from my kids.  My body wasn't telling me I was hungry, as the juices are surprisingly filling and satisfying, it was a psychological thing.  Not chewing or eating at dinner felt kind of weird.  But eventually after my dinner juice and an herbal tea, the craving disappeared.  I felt full well after supper and didn't feel like I needed my last bottle of juice.  But I drank it, of course, and enjoyed every last drop of the Red Monster.

Here I am on Day 2; still no caffeine or food and just about to dig into my second juice of the day, the Beta Blaster.  It's bright orange and it's made from apple, carrot, beet, lemon & ginger.  I have a feeling this is going to give me a boost  this afternoon!

Christian - the resident juice-ologist from The Pulp & Press Juice Co. dropped of my juice last night.  And what a great support he's been.  He answered all my questions and genuinely wanted to know how I was doing.  Along with the juice, you also get some great instructions on how to do the cleanse.  Each day has it's own little menu of what juice to have and when and some great tips on the detox process and beating cravings.  For a virgin cleanser, I definitely don't feel alone or overwhelmed.

Now I may end up eating these words in a couple days, but so far it's been great and not nearly as difficult as I had thought! And who knew I could get up and moving without my morning coffee?!

A Day in the Life - Post-Vacation Cleanse

It's been a week since we returned from Cuba and I can say I'm still missing the sunshine and sandy beaches.  But our new fallen snow has definitely brought our my Christmas spirit.  So after a week at an all-inclusive resort indulging in entirely too much food and booze I thought it might be a great time to push the reset button on my body and do a little post-vacay, pre-Christmas cleanse.

I will be documenting my juice cleanse over the next 5 days.  So far everything is great and the juice is delicious and surprisingly satisfying to my food-loving character.
